Running is awesome. It improves your cardio health, helps you sleep better (but don’t do run too close to snooze time!), improves your memory, strengthens your immune system, and improves your mood and energy. Runner’s high is a thing! (Read more about these benefits here!).
So how do you get started?
- Wear comfortable tennis shoes. (You don’t need to drop $400!).
- Choose a consistent time and place to run.
- Find a running buddy.
- Beware the “toos!” When you’re first getting into the habit, don’t start out too hard, too fast, or too long.
- Don’t eat right before running but be sure to drink plenty of water before and after running!
- Sign up for a race! It can be a great motivator!
- Don’t push yourself too hard. Learn to listen to your body. If you injure yourself, stop running and get professional help if necessary.
- Stick to safe running areas and let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll be back.
- Have fun!
