Fearless. Reckless. Slightly too eager to break the rules. Hen has been a thorn in the side of authority figures since she could walk, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. A born adventurer, she’s always looking for the next challenge—especially if it means proving she’s more than just “Sylvia Bloomberry’s little sister.”
When she meets Santiago, Hen sees an opportunity: a real mystery, a real adventure, and a chance to take down people who deserve to be taken down. With a sharp mind, quick reflexes, and a slightly concerning enthusiasm for dangerous situations, Hen is exactly the kind of person you want on your side in a fight… and exactly the kind of person you shouldn’t challenge to a dare.
Infancy
When Henrietta was one, her mother invited an important visitor to tour the gardens of Bloomberry Manor—C. Daisy Grow, Colonial Central’s lead landscaper. Mrs. Grow was rumored to be retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren and Henrietta’s mother was a candidate to replace her as lead landscaper.
Hen’s mother welcomed her visitor into the garden just as Hen ran into the yard, her flowery dress already caked in mud. Grow crouched down to shake Hen’s hand and Hen obliging reached out. But instead of a handshake, Grow got a slap across the cheek.
Hen burst into giggles, and when Grow leaned in again, she smacked the other cheek for good measure. “Henrietta!” her mother scolded, horrified.
Things didn’t improve when Hen ran off, knocking a bucket of manure onto Mrs. Grow’s shoes in the process. Hen claims today it was intentional.
To Hen, it was hilarious. To everyone else, it was a disaster. Geraldine’s would-be dream job wilted on the spot, but Hen had just discovered her identity: get the laugh, no matter the cost.
As for Mrs. Grow, she decided she wasn’t so anxious to have more time to spend with her grandchildren after all. She worked for another ten years.
